Ljig’s “RED CROSS” has joined a traditional effort for donating blood in Brankovina September 3, 2005 entitled IN HONOR OF DESANKA (a famous Serbian writer). Transport is provided. Apply in person at OO “RED CROSS” in Ljig or call 83 659.

In Belanovica, in the “Sestre Pavlovic” primary school, the following job vacancies are available:
Professor of Maths for 80%,
Professor of German for 60% and
Professor of English for 22% of working hours (part time).

From August 12 until the end of 2005 farmers from the Municipality of Ljig interested in the promotion of poultry raising, may apply for equipment for different types of chickens. In charge of the project is the NGO “Moba” while the Council of Ljig are funding it. More detailed information and applications working days 8-14hr in the offices of “Moba”. All farmers that have registered property and have registered wheat production are entitled to 5 000 dinars per hectare worth of subsidies, according to the Serbian Government. It’s important to complete the application form and hand it in by no later than September 1, 2005.

August 5, 2005, Ljig was the host of – FIVE GOLDEN YEARS – jubilee, five years from the opening of the first Telecottage through the DemNet program in Serbia and Montenegro.
More than 40 guests from the country and overseas got together in Ljig to review what had been done and to make further plans. Among the guests were NGO representatives from Dimitrovgrada, Guca, Lucane, Backa Topola, Muzije, Feketic, Temerin, Debeljaca, Bela Palanka, Rudnik, Vracevsnica, Ljuboradje near Prokuoplje…but prestigious guests from the USAID, EUTE (European Telecottage Union), Telecottage Association and the Hungarian government, New Zealand and Greece…

TWO DAYS OF STORM
Ljig – On June 11, 2005, the second storm in 48 hours that struck the Kolubara area proved to be destructive for its citizens. A powerful downpour, with hail, damaged crops and roads, while many villages were left without power. In less than two hours 25 liters of rain per square meter fell. There was a lot of rainfall in the night between Sunday and Monday which caused the flooding of the rivers Ljig and Kacer and the river Dragobiljska. It also caused the destruction of crops and gardens in the Municipality of Ljig. Hundreds of hectares of fertile, plowed fields in villages as are Moravci, Brancic, Cvetanovac and Jajcic were under water.

RE CULTIVATION OF THE CITY DEPOT
On Thursday June 9 in Ljig’s Council a contract was signed between the Ministry of Education and Conservation of the Environment and our Council on the sanitation and re cultivation of the city depot. According to the contract it is estimated that 70% of the funds will be supplied by the Republic of Serbia while the Council will fund the other 30%. In accordance with the preparation for the construction of a regional depot, the ministry has received funds for producing documents for this project. On the same day a contract was signed between the Geographical Institute SANU on the “Area Plan” of the Municipality of Ljig.

ASSOCIATION OF CITIES FORMED
At the meeting in May in Jagodina, 32 Heads of Council and 2 Mayors from Serbia formed an Association of Cities and Councils of Serbia. Their aim is to unite and, in that way, influence the Serbian government and the competent ministries by conserving local self-management, decentralization of finance and power. To do this certain laws must be chaged so that local self-management could play its part freely.

FIVE CITIES FIVE ASSOCIATIONS
The Centre for the development for the non-profit sector of West Serbia, with the financial support of Olof Palma International Centre, is completing a project named “Five Associations”. Its aim is to educate members of the Association for the development of local self-management, in five cities in West Serbia (Pozega, Loznica, Ljig, Uzice and Valjevo) by conducting two 3 day seminars. The seminars should provide suggestions and be operational at the same time.
